new colours
the maple sets the sky ablaze
scarlet stokes the sunset's flames
casting ashen leaves at my feet
i envy its expression
so eloquent in its appreciation
of a summer lived in full bloom
so unabashed in its evolution
as inky flames flush the veins
to shed the old from its branches
there's no room for the past
unafraid to be naked
exposed to the cold
until a new self emerges
