only
rip-roaring raw endlessly bright
walking brisk through these city streets
the only witness to this moment
are strangers flickering on by
but only i can feel and taste
this coffee’s crisp satisfaction
bite off the loose thread from my blouse
chew over last night’s murky dreams
the monsoon of experience
finds the toothy dam in my mouth
surging and begging to pour out
but only a meager drop escapes
waves swelling and crashing higher
but i won’t panic or feel alone
i’ll let them buoy me up and forward
on toward that wild blue yonder
